Mr. Berry: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he received from (a) BACTA, (b) Littlewoods,(c) Camelot and (d) Scottish and Newcastle between 2 May 1997 and 17 November 1997 in respect of on-line lotteries. [29837]Mr. George Howarth: During the period in question, I received letters from the British Amusement Catering Trade Association (BACTA),and Camelot and met them to discuss various gambling issues, including on-line lotteries.BACTA expressed the view that it would be undesirable for rapid draw on-line lotteries to be played in liquor licensed premises.Camelot was concerned that such games should not be introduced without research into their likely effects. We did not receive any representations from Littlewoods or Scottish and Newcastle on this subject. I met Scottish and Newcastle'strade association, the Brewers and Licensed Retailers Association.
