	answer text	Mr. Ben Chapman: To ask the Secretary of State for International Development what steps she is taking to promote greater publicunderstanding of development issues; and if she will make a statement. [51340]Clare Short: My Department runs an active information and development awareness programme.As outlined in the development White Paper, the Department attaches high priority to promoting greater awareness of developmentissues. I have recently doubled the budget for work in this field. I have also set up a Development Awareness Working Group to agreestrategies for this work. In November, we will hold the first Development Policy Forum which will enable a wide public debate ondevelopment issues.In addition, the Department produces publications on its work, attends exhibitions, runs a mobile roadshow, produces its ownmagazine, "Developments", and has its own internet site. My hon. Friend the Under-Secretary and I are currently undertaking a seriesof regional visits to promote greater understanding of development issues.
