<p>The amount of carbon dioxide displaced by renewable electricity generation can be calculated as the amount of renewable electricity generation multiplied by the carbon dioxide emissions intensity for electricity supplied by all fossil fuels. While renewable generation figures are available for each country, the emissions intensity figure is only available at UK level, so this figure is used in the calculations for all countries. These figures are given for the UK, England, Scotland and Wales in 2012 in the following table.</p><p><table><thead><tr><td valign="top" /><td valign="top"> Renewableelectricity generation in 2012(GWh) <br /></td><td valign="top"> Tonnesof carbon dioxide per GWh of electricity supplied by all fossil fuelsin 2012 (UKaverage) <br /></td><td valign="top"> Tonnesof carbon dioxide displaced by renewable electricitygeneration <br /></td></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td valign="top">UK<br /></td><td valign="top">41,258<br /></td><td valign="top">700<br /></td><td valign="top">28,880,620<br /></td></tr><tr><td valign="top">England<br /></td><td valign="top">22,974<br /></td><td valign="top">700<br /></td><td valign="top">16,081,500<br /></td></tr><tr><td valign="top">Scotland<br /></td><td valign="top">14,825<br /></td><td valign="top">700<br /></td><td valign="top">10,377,382<br /></td></tr><tr><td valign="top">Wales<br /></td><td valign="top">2,284<br /></td><td valign="top">700<br /></td><td valign="top">1,598,476<br /></td></tr></tbody></table></p> |
