<p>The average time from arrest to completion for youth criminal cases since 2010-11 can be viewed in the following table.</p><p>Completed cases include those sentenced, acquitted and withdrawn. It is not possible from centrally collated data to identify separately those sentenced.</p><p>The time between an offender being arrested and subsequently reaching completion in court encompasses a number of distinct stages, (for example investigation, charge and hearing at the court) and associated criminal justice organisations. Variations in duration are affected by the complexity and seriousness of a case both in terms of charging an offender and subsequent case management.</p><p><table><thead><tr><td valign="top">Table1: Average number of days taken from arrest to completion for youthcriminal cases in England and Wales, by financial years 2010-11 to2012-131, 2, 3,4<br /></td></tr><tr><td valign="top" /><td valign="top">Allcompleted criminalcases5<br /></td></tr><tr><td valign="top" /><td valign="top">Defendants<br /></td><td valign="top">Arresttocompletion6<br /></td></tr><tr><td valign="top" /><td valign="top">Number<br /></td><td valign="top">Average7<br /></td></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td valign="top">2010-11<br /></td><td valign="top">97,357<br /></td><td valign="top">45<br /></td></tr><tr><td valign="top">2011-12<br /></td><td valign="top">80,411<br /></td><td valign="top">45<br /></td></tr><tr><td valign="top">2012-13<br /></td><td valign="top">60,757<br /></td><td valign="top">46<br /></td></tr></tbody><tfoot><tr><td valign="top">1Excludes breaches and cases with an offence to completion time greaterthan 10years.<br />2Statistics are sourced from the CREST linked court data and includedaround 95% of completedcases.<br />3Only one offence is counted for each defendant in the case.
