<p>By the end of the programme (April 2008-June 2011) 96% of all eligible children in the country were enrolled in primary schools. The primary school completion rate increased from 52% to 60% of which 62% were girls. All the children in schools received textbooks. In addition 45,000 new teachers were recruited and 38,000 new classrooms constructed.</p><p>The fund was channelled through the Asian Development Bank who provided oversight of the programme progress, reporting and fiduciary management. All activities were implemented by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, Government of Bangladesh and supported by the Department for International Development and 11 other development partners.</p>
