Between January 2011 and January 2012 the number of private sector development advisers in the Department for International Development increased from 30 to 50. Staff working on private sector programmes, therefore, increased by 28 people between January 2011 and January 2012. This increase is essential to the delivery of the coalition Government's new strategy for private sector development as set out in 'The Engine of Development: the private sector and prosperity for poor people', published in 2011. It has also taken place in the context of overall administrative savings of 33%.
