<p>As set out in the 2011 Nuclear National Policy Statement, Heysham is one of the sites considered by the Government as suitable for future nuclear power stations. The construction of any new nuclear power station at Heysham is, however, a commercial matter and there are currently no-active plans by industry to begin any time soon.</p><p>It is in the UK's interest that lead sites continue to have the potential to be developed. Government remains firmly committed to its efforts to ensure that the conditions are right for investment in new nuclear power in the UK.</p>
