answer text

Public Health England (PHE) is leading a national oversight group which brings together partners from the Department, NHS England, local government, National Institute for Care Excellence, British Thoracic Society and TB Alert to develop the PHE strategy to decrease tuberculosis (TB) rates in England over the next 10 years. This aims to bring together best practice in clinical care, social support and public health to strengthen TB control, leading to a year on year decrease in incidence and a reduction in health inequalities associated with TB. The PHE strategy is expected to be published in March 2014.

In the meantime, there are a number of new or ongoing activities to reduce the incidence of TB in the United Kingdom. These include work to develop collaborative commissioning arrangements for TB in high incidence areas, the increasing adoption of TB cohort review, the funding of a mobile X-ray unit in London, and rolling out pre-entry screening for migrants from high incidence countries.
