<p>The Government Equalities Office (GEO) will shortly be issuing Dress Code guidance for employers and employees in response to a recommendation from the Women and Equalities Select Committee and the Petitions Committee, following their inquiry into high heels and workplace dress codes. This summary of good practice will set out how the law would be expected to apply in cases of sex discrimination where an employer requires female staff to wear, for instance, high heels, make-up, hair of a particular length or style, or particular clothing.</p><p>In drafting this guidance GEO has consulted a number of key stakeholders, including the Health and Safety Executive, the Equality and Human Rights Commission, the Fawcett Society, the Women’s Business Council and the Trades Union Congress; the resulting guidance reflects their input and advice.</p> |
