	answer text	<p>The Department for Transport has not made an assessment of the benefits of ensuring that public service vehicle operators cannot use tyres over a certain age, and has not commissioned any research on the role played by old tyres in public service vehicle crashes.</p><p>Her Majesty's Coroner for Surrey has written to the Secretary of State following an inquest into a tragic incident on the A3 in Surrey last September. The Department's officials are considering the information provided by the Coroner and I will respond to him in accordance with the established procedure.</p>
