The Department for International Development (DFID) pays for the deployment of UK fire and rescue service personnel to disasters overseas. DFID also makes a regular payment to enable the UK fire and rescue service to maintain readiness for international search and rescue. Although this facility draws on the services of several UK brigades, this payment is handled on behalf of those brigades by the Lincolnshire fire and rescue service, through which DFID pays £241,230 for the period 2009 to 2012. DFID and the UK fire and rescue service keep this amount under review jointly. At present both DFID and the UK fire and rescue service find it sufficient and therefore have no immediate plans to increase it.
