	answer text	<p>Officials in the Department are conducting competitions to put in place a communications system for smart metering to reach as many households in Great Britain as possible. A number of technologies have been proposed in response to these requirements including solutions using mobile telephone networks. The technology or technologies selected for each of three regions, as well as the extent of coverage achieved, will be determined by the outcome of these competitions which is expected to be announced in the late summer.</p>
