No. Suppliers must be transparent with consumers about any costs that will be incurred when changing energy supplier. Ofgem has recently completed a thorough review of the retail energy market and introduced reforms so that consumers face simpler tariff choices, receive clearer information and are treated fairly. Under Ofgem's new rules suppliers will have to include key information about tariffs in a tariff information label, which will include any termination fee that suppliers charge on fixed term contracts. The tariff information label will appear on customers' bills and annual statements and marketing material about the tariff. Clearer information on termination fees will allow consumers to take them into account when they are considering switching.
