§ The Economic Secretary to the Treasury (John Healey)Legislation will be introduced in the Finance Bill 2003, to take effect from 1 April 2003, which will increase the standard rate of landfill tax from £13 per tonne to £14 per tonne. The increase is part of a series of £1 per tonne escalator increases, announced in the Budget 1999. These increases have been publicised in the landfill public notice (LET1). HM Customs and Excise is writing to all landfill operators registered for the tax to confirm the date of the change.
