HL Deb 14 March 2005 vol 670 c121WA
Lord Tebbit

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the increase in the incidence of tuberculosis can be attributed to any of their policies; and, if so, which ones. [HL1633]

Lord Warner

The Government's policies are firmly committed to tackling rising rates of tuberculosis (TB).

The Department of Health launched the TB Action Plan in October 2004. The plan is a commitment to tackle rising rates of TB through 10 key areas of work, and identifies the underlying reasons for the rise in TB rates. Other factors underlying rising rates of TB were identified in a previous report from the Chief Medical Officer, Getting Ahead of the Curve, published in 2002. Details of the plan, and of Getting Ahead of the Curve can be found on the DH website www.dh.gov.u1c/assetRoot/04/09/04/56/04090456.pdf and www.dh.gov.uk/assetRoot/04/06/ 03/38/04060338.pdf respectively.
