HL Deb 27 January 2005 vol 668 cc175-6WA
Lord Laird

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What controversy the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland was referring to in the Northern Ireland Office press release of 17 December 2004 regarding the failure to select a new Chief Commissioner for the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission. [HL763]

Baroness Amos

The term "controversial" in the press release was a broad reference to past criticism of NIHRC from a range of perspectives.

Lord Laird

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Why the appointees to the second Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission have not been announced yet; and when they will be announced. [HL765]

Baroness Amos

Interviews for the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission are still continuing and the appointments will be announced in due course.
