asked Her Majesty's Government:

For each of the past 10 years, for which figures are available, what were the total number of estates on which inheritance tax was payable; and what was the total tax paid; and [HL924]

for each year since 1996–97, for which figures are available, what were the total number of estates on which inheritance tax was payable; and what was the total amount of inheritance tax payable for each of the following bands:

  1. (a) under £400,000;
  2. (b) £400,001 to£500,000;
  3. (c) £500,001 to£750,000;
  4. (d) £750,001 to£1,000,000; and
  5. (e) over£1,000,000. [HL925]
