asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many instances of:

  1. (a) actual bodily harm;
  2. (b) grievous bodily harm;
  3. (c) rape;
  4. (d) indecent assault;
  5. (e) common assault;
  6. (f) battery;
  7. (g) murder;
  8. (h) manslaughter; and
  9. (i) abuse of position of trust
were recorded in hospitals or on hospital premises against (i) doctors; (ii) nurses; and (iii) other hospital staff, in England and Wales in each of the last two years. [HL922]

The information requested has not been collected centrally hitherto but a new national reporting system for physical assaults against National Health Service staff is being put in place.
