HL Deb 10 February 2005 vol 669 c136WA
Baroness Finlay of Llandaff

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, in the light of the statement that they are acting to secure a strong academic base in medical education and research, they intend to ensure students have exposure to academic medicine in the curriculum of foundation year two. [HL1096]

Lord Filkin

We acknowledge the importance of embedding awareness of academic and research medicine in the early stages of a doctor's career. Indeed, we need to establish clear career pathways to attract the right people in the right numbers into this field. We are currently assessing the best way to achieve this and we are certainly looking at placements in foundation year two.
