§ Baroness Symons of Vernham DeanThe task of the European Court of Justice (ECJ) is to ensure that in the interpretation of the constitution the law is observed. The court's jurisdiction is provided for and defined in Articles III–358 to III–380. Article 111–376 makes clear that the court's jurisdiction does not extend to the common foreign and security policy. Article III–377 makes clear that member states' responsibilities in the areas of law and order and internal security, and operations carried out by their police and law enforcement services, are not subject to ECJ jurisdiction.
