To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many(a) recorded births and (b) birth defects there were in Northern Ireland in each of the last 10 years. [187770]

(a) The number of recorded births in Northern Ireland each year from 1994 to 2003 (the latest year for which the data are available) is given in the following table.
