HL Deb 28 October 2004 vol 665 cc137-8WA
Lord Astor of Hever

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What are the arrangements for the representation of the United Kingdom at meetings of European Union Defence Ministers and other European Ministerial meetings which may deal with defence and security issues. [HL4455]

Lord Bach

The UK is normally represented at EU Defence Ministers' meetings by the Secretary of State for Defence. Security issues may also be discussed at EU Foreign Ministers' meetings and at summits of EU heads of state and government. The UK is normally represented at those meetings by the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs and the Prime Minister respectively.
