HL Deb 21 October 2004 vol 665 c99WA
Lord Avebury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the Prime Minister made any new proposals to Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, during their meeting in Addis Ababa, for settling the differences between Ethiopia and Eritrea. [HL4330]

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Baroness Symons of Vernham Dean)

My right honourable friend the Prime Minister discussed a range of issues, including the border dispute between Ethiopia and Eritrea, with the Ethiopian Prime Minister during his visit to Ethiopia. The Prime Minister urged Meles to accept the final and binding decision of the Boundary Commission and reiterated that the UK stands ready to work with the two parties on this complex issue.
