HL Deb 16 November 2004 vol 666 cc132-3WA
Baroness Whitaker

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What efforts they have made to encourage Ms Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf to accept the mandate of United Nations Special Rapporteur on Trafficking. [HL4854]

Baroness Symons of Vernham Dean

The appointment of the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children is a matter for the chair of the UN Commission on Human Rights to decide. The rapporteur serves in an individual capacity and is independent from government.
