Mr. Hurst

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills what the average class size in state primary schools was in(a) the County of Essex in each year from 1980 to 1997 and (b) the County of Essex and the unitary authorities of Southend-on-Sea and Thurrock in each year from 1998 to 2003. [173326]
