HL Deb 17 May 2004 vol 661 c70WA
Lord Carter

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Why the visa desk in Beijing, China, refused applications from 450 students due to come to the United Kingdom under the seasonal agricultural workers scheme. [HL2685]

Baroness Symons of Vernham Dean

Between 1 January 2003 and 7 May 2004 our embassy in Beijing refused applications from 91 people seeking to enter the UK under the seasonal agricultural workers scheme. These applications were refused as they failed to satisfy the relevant requirements of the immigration rules.
