HC Deb 12 May 2004 vol 421 c467W
Mr. Burstow

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will estimate the cost of a(a) MRI scanner and (b) CT scanner. [169709]

Miss Melanie Johnson

The costs of computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners are dependent on the precise specification of equipment required at each individual institution. Costs may also be influenced by the method used to purchase equipment.

In England, costs range from £300,000 to £700,000 for CT scanners and £650,000 to £1,500,000 for MRI scanners. These costs are not inclusive of value added tax or any necessary build and installation costs.
