HC Deb 10 May 2004 vol 421 c132W
Norman Baker

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many wind farm applications his Department has been consulted upon; and to how many of these objections were made. [171515]

Mr. Caplin

Under arrangements agreed with the British Wind Energy Association, Civil Aviation Authority and DTI, the Ministry of Defence is voluntarily consulted by wind farm developers. Since 1 January 2000, the date from which accurate records have been maintained, some 3,139 proposals have been received of which we have been unable to approve 1,040.

As regards formal planning applications for the construction of wind farms upon which MOD has been consulted by the planning authority, some 58 have been notified, of which we have objected to nine.
