HC Deb 10 May 2004 vol 421 c90W
Mr. Drew

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if she will make a statement on the implications for the renewables obligation of the liquidation of Atlantic Electric and Gas; and whether its renewables obligation liabilities have been acquired by another going concern. [171385]

Mr. Timms

My officials are discussing the implications for the renewables obligation of the liquidation of Atlantic Electric and Gas with Ofgem. At this stage it is too early to assess the impact on the renewables obligation.

Mr. Drew

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if she will assess the effectiveness of the mechanism of the trading of renewable obligation certificates (ROCs), with specific reference to the liquidation of an energy company possessing ROCs. [171386]

Mr. Timms

In the event of the liquidation of an energy company possessing ROCs, the ROCs are one of the company's assets and can be sold by the liquidators, either to a company acquiring the business of the insolvent supplier or separately to another purchaser.
