HL Deb 05 May 2004 vol 660 c122WA
Baroness Finlay of Llandaff

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the route of appeal against political interference in Civil Service appointments. [HL2476]

Lord Bassam of Brighton

Appointments to the Civil Service are governed by the Civil Service Order in Council and are made in accordance with the principles of fair and open competition and selection on merit. These principles are set out in the Civil Service Commissioners' Recruitment Code. If anyone believes an appointment has not been made in accordance with this code they can raise their concerns with the Civil Service Commissioners.
