To ask the Deputy Prime Minister whether the Government's financial guarantee for the regions post-2006 is dependent on the UK proposals for an EU framework for devolved regional policy being implemented. [163716]

The Government stated in its consultation document "A modern regional policy for the United Kingdom" March 2003 that the guarantee would apply
"If the Government's proposed framework for EU policy were agreed¹."
