To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if she will make it her policy under the United Kingdom national allocation plan to exempt nuclear generation from the EU emissions trading scheme. [163449]

While nuclear generation does not produce emissions of carbon dioxide, the associated combustion installation which emits carbon dioxide and with a rated thermal input exceeding 20 MW is subject to the EU emissions trading scheme.
