HC Deb 22 March 2004 vol 419 cc576-7W
Chris Grayling

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport whether an officer in the Royal Parks Constabulary who is within two years of retirement at age 60 years will be eligible for transfer to the Metropolitan police. [160347]

Mr. Caborn

Although the normal retirement age for Metropolitan police officers is 55, they may be granted annual extensions of service up to the age of 60 subject to the satisfaction of certain eligibility tests. An officer in the Royal Parks Constabulary who is 58 or over at the time the RPC is merged with the Metropolitan Police Service (which of course depends on the passage of the appropriate legislation, which has not yet been brought forward) will be considered for attestation as an MPS officer on this basis.
