§ The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Trade and Industry (Lord Sainsbury of Turville)The UK response to the Commission's consultation on "Made in EU" origin marking was that such marking is neither necessary nor advantageous and that the current voluntary origin marking regime provides greater benefit to consumers and business in all UK sectors including food. This response followed consultation with industry, retailers, trade unions, consumer organisations and relevant public authority bodies.
