However, the following table shows the number of starts on modern apprenticeships in Milton Keynes, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Learning and Skills Council (LSC) area between April 2001 and the end of July 2003, as well as the number of starts from April 1996 to March 2001 in the three Training and Enterprise Council's (TECs) that amalgamated to become Milton Keynes, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire LSC.

The Department has adopted a Public Service Agreement target that in the academic year 2004–05 28 per cent. of young people will start a Modern Apprenticeship programme by the age of 22.
