To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what assessment she has made of the differences between compensation for pension loss in mining compensation claims made using the interim pensions spreadsheet and those using the final version of the calculator. [159523]

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many claims for compensation have been lodged by former mineworkers for injuries sustained while handling explosives during the course of their work; how many claims have been successful; and how much compensation has been awarded for such claims in each of the last 10 years. Around 200 claims for nitro-glycerine headaches have been settled.

These are subject to a confidentiality agreement between the British Coal Corporation and the solicitor representing some of the claimants.

Compensation for former NCB workers who have sustained injuries whilst handling explosives during the course of their work are personal injury claims and are handled on a Common Law basis.
