HC Deb 11 March 2004 vol 418 c1670W
Malcolm Bruce

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether his Department intends to establish a specialised authority to combat corruption in line with Article 36 of the UN Convention Against Corruption. [158356]

Caroline Flint

The UK is already in compliance with article 36 of the UN Convention against Corruption which stipulates that each State Party shall ensure the existence of a body or bodies or persons specialised in combating corruption through law enforcement. There are persons specialised in combating corruption in a number of law enforcement authorities which have responsibility for investigating or prosecuting corruption offences, such as the CPS and the Metropolitan Police.
