To ask the Deputy Prime Minister if he will make a statement on the options under consideration for local government reorganisation in East Lancashire. [159915]

Mr. Raynsford

The options under consideration for local government reorganisation are matters for the independent Boundary Committee for England.

Government will not take a view on any prospective scheme for reorganisation until we have received the final recommendations from the Boundary Committee, which we expect in May 2004.
