To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many families are eligible to receive child benefit. [158058]

The number of families in receipt of Child Benefit are shown in "Child Benefit Quarterly Statistics", which can be found on the Inland Revenue website at: www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk/child_benefit/menu.htm.
Precise figures on the take up rate of child benefit are not available, but it is thought to be around 98 per cent.
