HL Deb 01 March 2004 vol 658 cc85-6WA
The Countess of Mar

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What would be the effect upon the health of the public of the addition of 1.2 tonnes of Temik (10 per cent Aldicarb) to the public water supply; and what measures are in place to deal with such an incident. [HL1280]

Lord Warner

There are safeguards in place to protect the safety and quality of public water supplies. The effects on public health would depend on the concentration and the amount ingested from any contamination of public water supplies. Nationally agreed medical and public health briefings on aldicarb, and a public information sheet, are available to healthcare professionals through the National Poisons Information Service. The National Health Service has plans for major incidents and would be supported by advice from appropriate experts.
