To ask the Secretary of State for Health what proportion of dementia sufferers were diagnosed before the age of 65. [156378]

There is no routine collection of information on the numbers of people diagnosed with dementia. The research quoted by the older people's national service framework in 2001 estimated that approximately 600,000 people in the United Kingdom have dementia, of whom there are about 17,000 people under the age of 65.
