HL Deb 23 June 2004 vol 662 c128WA
Lord Alderdice

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Why decisions about the decommissioning of the National Severe Personality Disorder Service provided by Webb House, Main House and the Henderson Hospital were taken in advance of the publication of the independent research which the National Specialist Commissioning Advisory Group had stipulated was necessary. [HL3186]

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health (Lord Warner)

The therapeutic community service provided by Webb House, Main House and the Henderson Hospital for people with personality disorders is being centrally funded for a time-limited period while an independent evaluation of the replicability of the service is carried out. The second and final strands of the evaluation are due to be published in autumn 2004. The Department of Health, National Health Service commissioners and providers are working closely together in the transitional period between now and April 2006 when the funding is expected to be returned to the NHS and the service will be once again commissioned by the NHS.
