Homes within a mile of trunk roads or motorways are more likely to be targeted, as are areas with a high concentration of older persons and lower value housing. Environmental risk factors associated with an increased risk of distraction burglary include homes in an obviously poor state of repair (neglected gardens and outside maintenance), or with front doors not visible to the street or neighbours.
