HL Deb 21 June 2004 vol 662 cc95-6WA
Lord Kilclooney

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether all six seats for Cyprus in the European Parliament have been allocated to the electors in Greek southern Cyprus. [HL3177]

Baroness Symons of Vernham Dean

All six seats for Cyprus in the European Parliament have been allocated under arrangements designed by the Government of the Republic. On 11 June, the Council agreed a Commission proposal on new arrangements whereby, in the event of a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus problem there would be new elections for the European Parliament in Cyprus and two of the six seats would be reserved for Turkish Cypriots.
