National surveys of the oral health of adult citizens in England and Wales have been carried out since 19(8 and across the United Kingdom since 1978 and have been undertaken on a 10 year basis since then.

National surveys of child dental health in the UK commenced in 1973 Ind have also been undertaken on a 10 year basis. The initial results of the most recent survey in 2003 were Published by the Office for National Statistics on 30 June 2004.
