HC Deb 22 July 2004 vol 424 c576W
Ian Lucas

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make it his policy to introduce an offence of causing death by careless driving. [184915]

Caroline Flint

[holding answer 20 July 2004]The Government are reviewing the existing framework of the criminal law concerning bad driving, particularly where death or injury results, in order to ensure that appropriate offences and penalties are put in place. Any comprehensive review of this area of the law must examine the adequacy of the law relating to fatalities that occur as a result of careless driving. We will publish a consultation paper detailing our proposals as soon as possible.
