To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many delayed discharges were recorded in the South East in(a) 2002–03 and (b) 2003–04. [185506]

Figures for delayed transfers of care have been supplied for every quarter in 2002–03 and 2003–04, at primary care trust level and are available in the Library, including the latest figures for 2003–04, quarter 4 (March 2004). Nationally, the total number of patients of all ages occupying an acute bed with a delayed transfer, fell from 4,100 in March 2003 to 2,821 in March 2004.
