To ask the Secretary of State for Health what guidance he gives to patients who are in severe pain while awaiting NHS treatment. [184042]

Mr. Hutton

The Department does not issue guidance to patients on clinical issues such as this. The patient's general practitioner or another health care professional should provide guidance and advice on appropriate treatments or measures for reducing pain while waiting for further treatment.
