East End of London (Development)

To ask the Deputy Prime Minister how much will be spent on the development of east end areas in London in 2004–05. [184286]

Through projects approved to date under the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister Thames Gateway Programme it is expected that some £40 million will be spent in the east end of London during 2004–5. This funding will help to regenerate existing communities and open up new opportunities for housing and employment.

In addition to this there will be further investment by the Housing Corporation. I have asked, the Chief Executive, Jon Rouse to write to the hon. Member separately on this.
