§ What instructions and guidance have been given to members of the Armed Forces and other United Kingdom personnel and contractors in Iraq as to the obligations imposed by the United Nations International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the United Nations Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman and Degrading Treatment or Punishment. § The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Ministry of Defence (Lord Bach: All United Kingdom military personnel are informed of their responsibilities and obligations under relevant international humanitarian law through standard military training and pre-deployment training. These principles are reflected in standard orders and procedures. While other UK Government-employed personnel and government contractors do not receive such training, none is employed by Her Majesty's Government in duties where they have responsibility for apprehension, detention or guarding.
